I found this thanks to Kate Beaton. A novelist by trade and a blogger by night, Joey Comeau has created an interesting and pretty cool story about a boy named Martin who's mother works as a special effects make-up artist. Martin's journey into adolescent framed around a gory and fairly intriguing tale.
